On Wednesday, March 25, the president of the Zimbabwe Hospital Doctors Association announced that doctors and nurses would hold a strike nationwide over fear for their personal safety due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak in the country. According to union's statement, doctors and nurses will strike until demands for personal protective clothing and equipment are met.
Disruptions to medical services are expected at hospitals throughout Zimbabwe during the strikes.
As of March 27, there are three confirmed COVID-19 cases and one reported death nationwide.
Individuals in Zimbabwe are advised to confirm doctor's appointments, anticipate longer waiting times in medical facilities for the duration of the strike, and avoid any protests.
