The Royal Saudi Air Defence intercepted two ballistic missiles launched towards the capital Riyadh and Jazan city at 23:20 (local time) on Saturday, March 28. According to state media, Houthi militants are suspected of launching the missiles to target civilian infrastructure. Two civilians are reported to be slightly injured as a result of debris from the intercepted missile falling over residential districts.
Further cross-border attacks are possible over the near term.
Houthi rebels have claimed several missile attacks targeting Saudi facilities and infrastructure since late May 2019. The group has targeted airports in Abha, Jizan, and Najran. Yemen is engaged in a complex and deadly conflict, ongoing since Houthi rebels entered a civil war with the Yemeni government, supported by a Saudi-led coalition, in 2015.
Individuals in Saudi Arabia are advised to monitor developments to the situation and adhere to all instructions issued by local authorities.
