On Tuesday, March 31, the US Geological Survey (USGS) recorded a 6.5 magnitude earthquake in southern Idaho. The earthquake struck 72km (45 mi) west of Challis, Idaho, at 1752 (local time) at a depth of 10km (6.2 mi). Local media reported that shaking was felt across the region, including in the nearby states of Montana and Utah. There were no immediate reports of any damage or casualties; however, further information is awaited. Aftershocks are possible in the coming hours and days.  


Individuals in the affected area are advised to monitor the situation, prepare for potential aftershocks, and obey all directives issued by local authorities. In the event of aftershocks, individuals are advised to protect themselves as much as possible from falling debris if indoors (e.g. under a table), move away from windows, and not attempt to leave a building unless there is an immediate danger. If outdoors, move away from tall buildings, utility wires, and streetlights.
