A shootout between suspect rival cartel members broke out in the municipality of Madera (Chihuahua state) on Friday, April 3. The gunfight started around 18:35 (local time) and left 19 people dead and two others wounded. According to state officials, members of the Sinaloa and Juárez cartels are believed to have been involved in the shooting. Police officers recovered 18 firearms and two hand grenades from the scene.

Further violence between rival cartel members is possible over the near term.


Individuals in Chihuahua state are advised to monitor developments, avoid the affected area, and adhere to all instructions issued by the local authorities.
