Netherlands Alerte de sécurité

Multiple 5G telecommunication towers set alight amid fears of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) spread as of April 11; maintain vigilance for illicit activity

TIMEFRAME expected from 12/4/2020, 6h00 until 15/4/2020, 6h00 (Europe/Amsterdam). COUNTRY/REGION Netherlands

On Saturday, April 11, Dutch authorities reported that multiple 5G telecommunication sites have been vandalized by arson and other sabotage methods in the past week over fears that the system is responsible for the spread of coronavirus disease (COVID-19). Police have yet to apprehend those responsible for the damage; however, they have stated that they are working with the Dutch government's Security and Counter-Terrorism (NCTV) teams to prevent further attacks. Authorities fear that damage to the physical infrastructure could have consequences to the coverage of the telecommunications network.

Telecommunication providers in the Netherlands are in a testing phase and have yet to begin a nationwide rollout of 5G service pending regulatory approval which is expected to conclude in June, 2020. Medical officials have stated that there is no substantiated evidence that telecommunications can spread COVID-19.

Individuals in the Netherlands are advised to remain vigilant and to report any suspicious objects or behavior to the authorities.
