The Uganda People's Defence Forces (UPDF) deployed an additional 210 personnel to Agago district on Wednesday, April 22. According to media sources, the forces were deployed to enhance security amid a recent rise in cattle rustling activity by suspected bandits from the Karamoja sub-region and South Sudan. The additional contingent of UPDF personnel will assist the 600-strong Local Defence Units (LDU) currently in the region to patrol the porous border with the Karamoja sub-region.
Individuals in the border areas of Agago district and Karamoja sub-region are advised to monitor the situation, remain vigilant for signs of intercommunal unrest, and adhere to all instructions issued by the local authorities.
