Event

According to reports, floods due to heavy rain in Baringo county have caused at least three fatalities and five others are thought to be missing as of Friday, May 1. Those impacted were reportedly police officers who were pushing their vehicle that got stuck whilst crossing the River Kagir on Thursday evening (local time), April 30, between Yatia and Chemoe.

Further heavy rain is to be anticipated in the near term. Associated transportation disruptions are to be expected in the affected areas.

Advice

Individuals in the affected areas are advised to monitor local weather reports, avoid areas directly affected by flooding, confirm road conditions, anticipate transportation and business disruptions, and adhere to instructions issued by local authorities. Avoid walking or driving through floodwaters; 15 cm (6 in) of running water is enough to knock over an adult.
