Event

At least four people were killed in an attack by suspected Cooperative for the Development of Congo (CODECO) militants in Djugu territory (Ituri province) overnight (local time) from Thursday, April 30, to Friday, May 1. Militants reportedly attacked Ngoupou village in Bahema Badjere, killing four minors and injuring one other.

Similar attacks are possible in the region over the near term.

Context

The government's limited presence in the DRC's eastern provinces, as well as the presence of numerous armed groups and local self-defense militias, has led to continued insecurity in the area.
