As of Saturday, May 2, hundreds of people have been displaced in Mbogi, Djugu territory (Ituri province), after a rise in the water levels of Lake Albert following heavy rains. At least 100 residential houses were inundated by rising water levels on Saturday. Reports indicate that other communities on Lake Albert's shores, including Nana, Bukuku, and Mita have also been affected by the flooding.
Additional flooding, and disruptions to transportation and business are to be expected in the area over the near term.
Individuals in the affected areas are advised to monitor local weather reports, avoid areas directly affected by flooding, confirm road conditions, anticipate transportation and business disruptions, and adhere to instructions issued by local authorities. Avoid walking or driving through floodwaters; 15 cm (6 in) of running water is enough to knock over an adult.
