Queensland Mines Minister Anthony Lynham announced on Wednesday, May 6, that five miners have suffered severe injuries following an explosion at the Grosvenor Coal Mine in Moranbah (Queensland). The miners are undergoing treatment for severe burns at the Moranbah Hospital. The mining company is evacuating the mine while emergency operations are underway. The cause of the explosion has yet to be determined as of early Thursday morning (local time), May 7.

Residual disruptions are likely in the vicinity of the mine in the immediate term as rescue operations continue.
