Suspected Cooperative for the Development of Congo (CODECO) militants killed at least seven people in an attack in Djugu territory (Ituri province) on Monday night (local time), May 10, through to Tuesday, May 11. The attack reportedly took place in the village of Roo. Several civilians were also wounded in the incident.
Similar militant attacks are possible in the region over the near term.
The government's limited presence in the DRC's eastern provinces, as well as the presence of numerous armed groups and local self-defense militias, has led to continued insecurity in the region.
Individuals in Ituri province are advised to remain vigilant for militant activity, monitor developments to the situation, and adhere to all instructions issued by local authorities and their home governments.
