Heavy clashes between two tribes in Kadugli (South Kordofan state) on Tuesday, May 12, left at least 26 people dead and another 19 wounded. The recent violence is a continuation of a long-running tribal feud between members of the Beni Amer and Nuba ethnic groups and erupted over a dispute over cattle. Security forces have been deployed to Kadugli, and the city remains under total lockdown as of Thursday evening (local time), May 14.

Further violent clashes are possible in South Kordofan state in the near term.
