Unidentified militants killed two members of the security forces outside of Srinagar (Jammu and Kashmir) on Wednesday, May 20. The assailants fired upon a security checkpoint in the Pandach Chowk area and stole weapons before fleeing the scene. Additional security forces were deployed to the scene and operations have been launched to apprehend the attackers.
A heightened security presence and localized disruptions are anticipated in the area and further clashes remain possible in the near term.
Individuals in Jammu and Kashmir territory are advised to monitor developments, remain vigilant for militant activity, and adhere to all instructions issued by local authorities and their home governments.
Some foreign governments advise their citizens against travel to parts of Kashmir, notably including areas along the Line of Control (LoC), due to the significant risk of violence.
