Syria: Suspected Israeli missiles target military positions in Hama province June 4

Syria Alerte de sécurité

Suspected Israeli missiles target military positions in Hama province on June 4; further attacks possible over the near term

TIMEFRAME expected from 4/6/2020, 12h00 until 6/6/2020, 11h59 (Asia/Damascus). COUNTRY/REGION Masyaf, Hama Governorate

Suspected Israeli missiles reportedly targeted military positions near the city of Masyaf (Hama province) on Thursday, June 4. Syrian sources reported that the missiles were shot down by air defense systems, although other sources suggest some struck their targets. The missiles were fired over Lebanese airspace and reportedly targeted weapon factories belonging to the Iranian Revolutionary Guards Corps. There have been unconfirmed reports of casualties, and other sources suggest material damage was caused by those missiles that did strike their targets.

Further missile attacks on military targets are possible in the near term.

The Israeli military has struck more than 200 targets in Syria over the past two years, many of which have been arms depots and military facilities allegedly receiving arms and fighters from Iran and the Lebanese Hezbollah group.

Due to extremely poor security conditions, Western governments generally advise against all travel to Syria, with some banning travel to the country. Professional security advice and support should be sought prior to any travel to Syria.
