Anti-racism activists plan to hold demonstrations in Lisbon and other cities nationwide on Saturday, June 6, and Sunday, June 7. In Lisbon, protesters plan to assemble at Alameda from 16:45 (local time) on Saturday before proceeding to Praca de Comercio from 17:30. Protests have also been called for in Porto (Norte region) on Saturday, where demonstrators will gather at Cordoaria at 17:00 before marching to join another gathering commencing at Avenida dos Aliados from 18:30. In Braga (Norte region), protesters may gather at Avenida Central from 17:00 on Saturday. In Guimarães, there have been calls for protesters at Largo do Toural from 16:00 on Sunday. Reports suggest that the marches are linked to opposition to the police-related death of George Floyd in the US.
Overland travel disruptions are to be expected in the vicinity of the demonstrations.
Individuals in these locations are advised to monitor developments, avoid all protests as a precaution, and adhere to all instructions issued by local authorities.
