Authorities announced on Saturday, June 27, that rainstorms in Sichuan province killed at least three people overnight (local time) and left 12 others missing. Two fatalities were reported after two vehicles fell into a river in Mianning county, whilst another fatality was reported in Yihai township. Some 7,500 people have been evacuated from their homes in affected areas and authorities have invoked emergency response measures. Landslides have also been reported in the Ngawa Tibetan and Qiang Autonomous Prefecture as a result of prolonged heavy rains. Further heavy rainfall is forecast for Sichuan province, in addition to the provinces of Guizhou, Henan, Hubei, Hunan, and Shaanxi.
Disruptions to travel and infrastructure are anticipated over the coming days.
Individuals in the affected areas are advised to monitor local weather reports, adhere to instructions issued by local authorities, anticipate continuing disruptions, and never drive or walk through flooded streets.
