United States of America Alerte de sécurité

Demonstrations against Israeli annexation plans expected in several cities on July 1; avoid protest sites

TIMEFRAME expected from 1/7/2020, 12h00 until 2/7/2020, 11h59 (America/Los_Angeles). COUNTRY/REGION United States

Protests against Israeli plans to annex areas of the West Bank are planned in several US cities on Wednesday, July 1. Demonstrations are set to take place in Chicago's Altman Park, San Diego's Reuben H. Fleet Science Centre, Brooklyn's Bay Ridge, and outside the Israeli consulates in San Francisco and Los Angeles. Smaller protests are expected in other US cities and are likely to be tied to the wider Black Lives Matter (BLM) protest movement.

A heightened security presence is to be expected at protest sites, with an associated disruption to transportation likely.

Israel is preparing to annex areas in the West Bank and Jordan Valley in line with US President Donald Trump's January 2020 "Peace to Prosperity" Middle East peace plan. The plan has been widely criticized by Palestinians and their sympathizers, with frequent protests held to condemn the annexations in Palestine and areas with a large pro-Palestinian community.

Individuals in the US are advised to monitor developments, avoid all protests as a precaution, and adhere to all instructions issued by local authorities.
