A vehicle-born improvised explosive device (VBIED) detonation was reported at 07:49 (local time) in the vicinity of the Port area of Mogadishu on Saturday, July 4. Early reports suggest that the blast occurred when a suicide bomber drove their vehicle into a checkpoint near the Port's tax office. There were also reports of gunfire following the attack. There has been no official comment on casualties; however, unconfirmed reports suggest at least seven police were wounded in the blast. No group has yet claimed responsibility for the attack.
A heightened security presence is to be expected in the capital in the near term.
