Armenia: Protest possible in Yerevan on July 7

Armenia Alerte de sécurité

Protest possible in Yerevan on July 7 following a hearing of the former president; avoid all demonstrations and large gatherings

TIMEFRAME expected from 5/7/2020, 12h00 until 8/7/2020, 11h59 (Asia/Yerevan). COUNTRY/REGION Yerevan

Armenian authorities announced on Sunday, July 5, that the hearing of former president Robert Kocharyan is scheduled to take place at 13:00 (local time) on Tuesday, July 7, at the Constitutional Court in Yerevan. Kocharyan is facing several charges, including corruption. A ban on public gatherings and a restriction on movement remains in effect due to the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic. However, large gatherings are likely in Yerevan.

Previous hearings have resulted in clashes between supporters and the security forces. Additionally, major flashpoints for protests and large gatherings include the National Assembly, the General Prosecutor's Office, and the Republic and Freedom squares.

A heightened security presence is expected in the vicinity of the Constitutional Court and potential protests cannot be ruled out.

Individuals in Yerevan are advised to monitor developments to the situation, avoid protests and demonstrations, and adhere to all instructions issued by the local authorities.
