Suspected Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA) militants ambushed personnel from the Pakistani Frontier Corps (FC) in Turbat (Balochistan province) on Tuesday, July 7. At least one security forces member was killed and three others were injured.
Similar militant attacks are possible in Balochistan province over the near term.
Balochistan has been the site of a separatist insurgency for decades. The province's native separatist movement has long been associated with increased levels of unrest and conflict relative to the rest of the country, as Balochistan, which is rich in natural resources, remains the poorest province in the country. Ethnic Baloch separatists feel a strong degree of marginalisation by the Pakistani state which has caused them to agitate for autonomy and even independence for decades.
Individuals in Balochistan province are advised to remain vigilant for militant activity, report suspicious objects and behavior to the police, and adhere to any instructions issued by the local authorities and their home governments.
