Security forces arrested a suspected militant in In Amguel (Tamanrasset province) during a security operation on Saturday, July 11. Reportedly, the suspect joined militant organizations operating in the Sahel region in 2012.
Further security operations targeting suspected militants are possible in the near term.
Algeria's southern provinces span much of the Sahel desert region and include areas bordering Tunisia, Libya, Niger, Mali, Mauritania, and Morocco. The border areas suffer from insecurity and the Algerian military has increased its presence in the region to combat the infiltration of militants.
Individuals in Algeria are advised to remain vigilant due to the continuing terror threat, adhere to all instructions issued by the local authorities, and report any suspicious objects or behavior.
