The US National Hurricane Center (NHC) announced in its 22:00 (local time) advisory on Friday, July 24, that Tropical Storm Hanna is expected to be a Category 1 hurricane when it makes landfall along the south-central Texas coast in the afternoon or early evening of Saturday, July 25. Hanna is currently 265 km (165 miles) east-southeast of Corpus Christi with maximum sustained winds of 105 kph (65 mph), moving west at 13kph (8mph). A hurricane warning has been issued for areas between Baffin and Mesquite Bay, a span that includes Corpus Christi. Storm surge warnings of up to 1.5m (5ft) are in effect between Matagorda and Baffin Bays. Rainfall is likely to exceed 25cm (10in) in localized areas during the storm's passing. 

Strong winds, heavy rainfall, associated flooding, and dangerous seas are likely to affect southern Texas in the near term. Associated disruptions to transportation, power, communications, and business are to be expected. Further information on the storm can be found on the NHC website, here.
