At least six people were killed in two attacks conducted by Cooperative for the Development of Congo (CODECO) rebels in Djugu territory (Ituri province) on Monday, July 27. According to media sources, a group of militiamen attacked Amema village in the Banyali-Kilo sector in Djugu territory early on Monday morning. Five people were killed in this attack. A second attack was reported on the Kilo-Kobu axis in the Walendu Djatsi sector of the territory. According to reports, CODECO rebels ambushed a vehicle carrying two passengers, killing one of them and wounding the other.
Similar attacks are possible in the region over the near term.
The government's limited presence in the DRC's eastern provinces, as well as the presence of numerous armed groups and local self-defense militias, has led to continued insecurity in the region.
Those in Ituri province are advised to remain vigilant for rebel and militia activity, monitor developments, and adhere to all instructions issued by local authorities and their home governments.
