Israel Defense Forces (IDF) carried out multiple airstrikes on Syrian Armed Forces (SAF) military positions on Monday, August 3, in particular in Quneitra governorate, southwest of Damascus. The IDF stated that the operation was conducted in response to a militant attack that was thwarted along the border to Syria on Sunday, August 2. As a result of the airstrikes, multiple observation posts and air defense systems were reportedly destroyed. There were no immediate reports of casualties due to the airstrikes.
Further airstrikes are possible in southern Syria in the near term
Over the past two years, the Israeli military has struck more than 200 targets in Syria, many of which have been arms depots and military facilities allegedly receiving arms and fighters from Iran and the Lebanese Hezbollah group.
Due to extremely poor security conditions, Western governments generally advise against all travel to Syria, with some banning travel to the country. Professional security advice and support should be sought prior to any travel to Syria.
