Unknown militants ambushed and killed ten Malian soldiers, including a senior officer, overnight on Friday, September 4, near the village of Guire (Koulikoro region). Local reports state that armed men on motorcycles have been seen in the area since Monday, August 31. The latest attack marks the third time the Malian army has suffered losses since the military took power in a coup on August 18. According to a press release by the military, additional reinforcements have been deployed to the area to bolster security.
Further clashes between militants and security forces are to be expected in the area in the near to medium term.
