Flooding killed three people in Ouagadougou and Kaya (Centre-Nord region) on Saturday, September 5, following heavy rains. In Ouagadougou, a pregnant woman was killed in Tanghin district whilst flooding was reported in the Kilwin, Larlé, Nemnin, Rimkiéta, and Yamtenga areas, where property has also been damaged. Two fatalities also occurred in Sector 2 of Kaya, where a number of houses were destroyed without further casualties.
Further rainfall is expected over the near term. Disruption to transportation, business, and utilities is likely.
Those in Burkina Faso are advised to monitor local weather reports, anticipate transportation disruptions, avoid areas directly affected by flooding, confirm road conditions before setting out, and adhere to instructions issued by local authorities, including evacuation orders. Avoid walking or driving through floodwaters.
