Idaho authorities announced on Friday, September 18, that mandatory evacuations have been ordered due to the rapid spread of the Badger Fire in the southern area of the state. As of 05:00 hrs (local time), the fire is currently 35,706 acres (14,409 hectares) in size with zero percent containment. Residents in Rock Creek were put under a mandatory evacuation order hours after they and southern Twin Falls residents were told to prepare to evacuate in the event fire conditions posed a threat.
Further spread of the fires is forecast in the near term. An emergency response presence and localized transportation disruptions, namely road closures, should be anticipated in the affected areas.
Those in the vicinity of the fires are advised to monitor the situation, avoid the area, and adhere to all instructions issued by the local authorities.
