An officer from the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) was killed when a patrol was ambushed by militants in Budgam district (Jammu and Kashmir territory) on Thursday, September 24. The attack took place in the Badipora area of Chadura at around 07:45 (local time). The militants arrived on motorcycles and opened fire on the patrol, before they fled the scene, taking the slain officer's weapon with them. The area was cordoned off by security forces and an operation was launched in response to the incident.
A heightened security presence, including increased patrols and searches, is expected in the immediate vicinity of the incident in the coming hours and days. Further clashes between security forces and militants are likely throughout the region over the medium term.
Individuals in Jammu and Kashmir territory are advised to monitor developments, remain vigilant for militant activity, and adhere to all instructions issued by local authorities and their home governments.
Some foreign governments advise their citizens against travel to parts of Kashmir, notably including areas along the Line of Control (LoC), due to the significant risk of violence.
