Heightened security measures are being set in place in Abuja ahead of Nigeria's 60th independence anniversary celebrations, planned on Thursday, October 1. Ahead of Thursday's events, authorities have announced that all routes leading into Eagle Square will be closed from Wednesday, September 30 at midnight. The closure of the square will be to allow additional security enhancements prior to a ceremony on Thursday. Additionally, the Federal Secretariat Complex will be closed from 14:00 (local time) on Wednesday. 

Additionally, travelers should still expect a heightened police presence around government buildings and sensitive security installations.


Those in Abuja are advised to avoid any large gatherings. Members should be mindful of the increased security presence, heed any directives issued by local authorities, and immediately report any suspicious items or activity.
