A demonstration denouncing a rise in femicides and disappearances is set to take place in Saltillo (Coahuila state) on Friday, October 2. Activists from Colectivo Alondra Gallegos will reportedly gather at 18:00 (local time) at the Fuente Ateneo and march to the Palacio de Gobierno.
A heightened security presence is to be expected in the vicinity of the demonstration, along with localized transport disruptions.
Since March, feminist organizations across Mexico have escalated their protests against the escalating violence, occupying government buildings and defacing monuments.
According to the official data, between January and August, murders of women rose 2.2 percent to 645, compared to the same period in 2019 when there were 631.
Those in Saltillo are advised to monitor developments, avoid large gatherings as a precaution, and adhere to all instructions issued by the local authorities.
