Protests scheduled in North Kivu’s Beni and Goma on October 3 to denounce rising insecurity; avoid all demonstrations

Protests are scheduled to take place in Beni and Goma (North Kivu province) over rising insecurity on Saturday, October 3. The demonstrations have been called for by the Veranda Mutsanga civil society group and are being held to denounce killings in the region and to demand the government take strict action to tackle the issue, including the formation of self-defense groups. In Goma, participants are set to gather at approximately 09:30 (local time) in the Majengo area before marching toward the Goma museum. The location details and time are yet to be announced for Beni.

A heightened security presence and localized travel disruptions should be anticipated in the vicinity of protests.
