On Saturday, October 3, civil protection authorities evacuated 21 families in the Nueva Concepción community of Tecoluca municipality (San Vicente department) due to heavy rainfall. Rains began in the region on Friday, October 2, and rivers have started to overflow. The weather system currently affecting El Salvador has been linked to the emergence of Tropical Storm Gamma in the Gulf of Mexico. Further rains are expected to continue at least into Sunday, October 4.
Residual descriptions to businesses, utilities, and transportation are expected in the coming days and further rains could bring more flooding to the region.
Those in affected areas are advised to monitor local weather reports, anticipate transportation disruptions, avoid areas directly affected by flooding, confirm road conditions before setting out, and adhere to instructions issued by local authorities, including evacuation orders. Avoid walking or driving through floodwaters.
