DR Congo Alerte de sécurité

Clashes between Mai-Mai militias kill three in Lubero territory (North Kivu province) on October 7; further clashes possible

TIMEFRAME expected from 9/10/2020, 12h00 until 11/10/2020, 11h59 (Africa/Kinshasa). COUNTRY/REGION Lubero territory (North Kivu province), North Kivu province

Clashes between the Union des Patriotes pour la Liberation du Congo (UPLC) and the Resistance Nationale Lumumbiste (RNL) Mai-Mai militias in Galo in Lubero territory (North Kivu province) resulted in three fatalities on Wednesday, October 7. Reports suggest that the UPLC attacked the RNL group and that fighting continued in the surrounding areas into Wednesday evening. Among those killed were two RNL militia and a civilian, several others were injured.

Further clashes in the near term cannot be ruled out.

The government's limited presence in the DRC's eastern provinces, as well as the presence of numerous armed groups and local self-defense militias, has led to continued insecurity in the region.

Those in North Kivu province are advised to remain vigilant for militia activity, monitor developments in their own area of operations, and adhere to all instructions issued by local authorities and their home governments.
