El Salvador: Protesters erect roadblocks in San Salvador on October 13

El Salvador Alerte de sécurité

Protesters erect roadblocks along Alameda Juan Pablo II in San Salvador on October 13; find alternative routes

TIMEFRAME expected from 13/10/2020, 12h00 until 14/10/2020, 11h59 (America/El_Salvador). COUNTRY/REGION San Salvador

Protesters have reportedly erected roadblocks along Alameda Juan Pablo II in San Salvador on Tuesday, October 13. The demonstrators, who are reportedly municipal employees or workers affiliated with the Salvadoran Association of Municipal Workers (ASTRAM), are demanding delayed payments from the city's Mayor, Ernesto Muyshondt, and are staging an additional rally outside of the San Salvador City Hall. Unconfirmed reports also state that roadblocks have been erected on Avenida Monseñor Romero.

Despite the roadblocks, the demonstration appears to be peaceful in nature, although clashes between participants and local security forces can not be ruled out should they try to forcibly remove the protesters. However, significant travel disruption should be anticipated in and around the above-mentioned areas.

Those in San Salvador are advised to monitor developments, adjust itineraries accordingly, and adhere to all instructions issued by local authorities.
