Members of the National Committee of the Strike (Comite Nacional del Paro), including several workers unions, students and political organizations, have announced plans to hold nationwide demonstrations and associated strikes on Wednesday, October 21, to protest against the government's economic and security policies.
All organizations participating in the event are scheduled to start a 24-hour strike on Wednesday. Organizers of the event have also announced vehicular marches in major cities from the early morning. The largest demonstrations are scheduled to take place in the below locations:
- Bogota: Plaza de Bolivar
- Barranquilla: Estatua del Joe (Intersection Calle 72 with Carrera 46)
- Bucaramanga: Santander Department Governor's Office
- Cali: Plazoleta de San Francisco
- Medellin: Parque de las Luces
The demonstrations are expected to be well attended. A heightened security presence and associated disruptions are to be expected in the vicinity of any protest site. Clashes between protesters and security forces cannot be ruled out.
Those in Colombia are advised to monitor developments, avoid all demonstrations and political gatherings as a precaution, and adhere to all instructions issued by local authorities.
