Violent protests have been reported in the Cele-Festac area of Lagos on Tuesday, November 17. The protests are taking place along the Apapa-Oworonshoki (Apapa-Oshodi) Expressway and demonstrators have reportedly blocked the route by burning debris. The protesters are reportedly motorcycle taxi drivers (Okada) who are demonstrating over the activities of a local security taskforce which has been targeting transporters in the area.
Localized disruptions to transport and a heightened security presence is likely in the area over the coming hours. Clashes between demonstrators and security forces are possible.
