The Saudi-led coalition announced that they have destroyed at least two mines believed to have been placed by Yemen-based Houthi militants in the Red Sea on Friday, November 27. The precise location of where the mines were laid is currently unclear. The development comes after a mine detonated and damaged a tanker off Al-Shuqaiq (Jizan province) on Wednesday, November 25.
Further operations in the area should be expected in the near term.
Yemen-based Houthi rebels have launched hundreds of rockets, missiles, and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) into Saudi Arabia since 2015, when Saudi-led coalition forces intervened in the country's civil war in support of the Yemeni government.
Those undertaking maritime operations in the region are advised to remain vigilant while aboard vessels, monitor developments to the regional security environment, and report all incidents to the nearest authorities.
