Iraqi officials have reported a rocket attack on an oil refinery in northern Salah al-Din governorate on Sunday, November 29, causing a fire and minor damage. At least one rocket hit a fuel storage depot in the Siniya refinery, located southwest of the Baiji refinery, the largest in the country. Officials have stated that operations have been halted at Siniya following the attack and firefighters are currently at the scene. No casualties were immediately reported. Additionally, no group has taken responsibility for the attack.
A heightened security presence is to be anticipated in the governorate over the near term. Further attacks cannot be ruled out.
Individuals in Iraq are advised to remain vigilant for militant activity and adhere to any instructions issued by the local authorities and their home governments.
The security environment in Iraq remains complex. Although travel is possible in some areas with proper security protocols in place, other areas should be considered strictly off-limits. Professional security advice and support should be sought prior to all travel.
