Fighting between the Southern Transitional Council (STC) and forces loyal to the internationally recognized government of President Abed Rabo Mansour al-Hadi is ongoing in Zinjibar, Yemen, as of Dec. 5. At least eight STC fighters have reportedly been killed in this latest round of clashes; losses among government forces remain unclear. Further violence is likely as rival groups continue to fight for control of the city. Heightened security measures will remain in place, particularly outside government institutions, until the situation stabilizes. The increased security posture could result in disruptions to ground travel and business operations.
Exercise extreme caution if operating in Zinjibar. To the extent possible, avoid government buildings, security installations, and any areas where government troops or armed fighters appear to be deploying. Seek updated information about security conditions if public movements are unavoidable. Register and maintain contact with diplomatic missions responsible for Yemen.
