Egypt: Policeman killed by roadside bomb in Cairo June 18

Egypt Alerte de sécurité

One policeman killed and four others injured in explosion in Cairo June 18

TIMEFRAME expected from 18/6/2017, 12h00 until 18/6/2017, 11h59 (Africa/Cairo). COUNTRY/REGION Egypt

One policeman was killed and four others were injured after a police car hit a remotely-detonated IED (improvised explosive device) in the capital Cairo on Sunday, June 18. The Hasm terrorist group has claimed responsibility for the attack.

Egypt has been in a state of emergency since April 2017, when Islamic State (IS) militants carried out attacks on two churches in Tanta and Alexandria, leaving over 50 people dead. Moreover, Egypt faces an IS militant insurgency in the restive Sinai Peninsula, where hundreds of soldiers and police have been killed since 2013.

The security environment in Egypt remains complex. Although travel is permissible in some areas, other areas should be considered strictly off limits. Professional security advice and support should be sought prior to travel.
