Cameroon: Suicide bombing in Limani (Far North region) June 15

Suicide bombing kills three in Limani (Far North region) June 15

TIMEFRAME expected from 16/6/2017, 12h00 until 18/6/2017, 11h59 (Africa/Douala). COUNTRY/REGION Cameroon

According to security sources, a suicide bombing was carried out in Limani - located near the Nigerian border in the Far North region - on Thursday, June 15. Three people were reportedly  killed, including the assailant. No group has claimed responsibility for the attack but Boko Haram is suspected.

The Far North region of Cameroon, especially areas along the Nigerian border, regularly experiences significant violence attributed to Boko Haram. While the group's main stronghold is in Nigeria, the group has been carrying out attacks in Cameroon since 2013. Following months of relative calm, the Far North region has faced an upsurge in attacks in recent weeks. Overnight June 9-10, a suicide bombing in Kolofata (Far North region) killed one soldier. On June 2, nine people died following a double suicide bombing in Kolofata.

Individuals in Cameroon are advised to monitor the situation and adhere to all instructions issued by authorities. Some Western governments advise their citizens against travel to the Far North region as well as areas bordering Nigeria, Chad, and the Central African Republic; travel to these areas should only be considered with appropriate security protocols in place.
