Spanish authorities have announced that increased security measures would be implemented at tourist destinations throughout Spain in July and August, in light of the increased terrorist threat across Europe. At least 2600 additional police officers will be deployed in the Balearic and Canary Islands and in Valencia, Andalucia, Madrid, Cantabria, Asturias, and Galicia. The UK, France, Italy, and The Netherlands will provide policemen to assist with the effort.
The Spanish terrorist threat level is currently assessed at four (on a scale of one to five). The current threat level, declared in June 2015, indicates a "high risk" of a terrorist attack.
Individuals in Spain are advised to monitor the situation via reliable media sources. Due to the prevailing threat of terrorism, remain vigilant and report any suspicious objects or behavior to the authorities.
