Expect disruptions on Madrid metro on June 28 to July 2 due to planned strikes

12 juin 07h10 UTC
TIMEFRAME expected from 28/6/2017, 12h00 until 2/7/2017, 11h59 (Europe/Madrid). COUNTRY/REGION Madrid

Workers with the Madrid metro will strike from Wednesday, June 28, to Sunday July 2. The walkout will start on June 28 at 13:00 (local time) and finish at midnight on July 2. All metro lines will be affected. Crowded conditions and increased travel times are to be anticipated for all available trains. Increased congestion on roads in the city and its surrounding areas and increased demand for taxis is likely as commuters are forced to use alternate means of transportation.

The metro was scheduled to be open non-stop from 06:00 on Saturday, July 1, to 01:30 on Monday, July 3, due to Gay Pride events. However the strike could affect these operating hours.

The strike will take placed during the World Gay Pride festival, which is set to take place in Madrid from June 23 to July 3, with the most important events on July 1. This event will bring thousands of visitors to the capital during the strike period.

Individuals in Madrid are advised to plan for increased travel times and to monitor developments to the situation.
