Doctors in Buenos Aires province are holding yet another 24-hour strike on Thursday, June 8, to demand salary increases amid high inflation rates. The union behind the strike, the CICOP, represents more than 10,000 doctors and other medical professionals at 80 public healthcare facilities in the province and as such the impact will likely be relatively significant. Hospitals, including in the city of Buenos Aires, could potentially only provide emergency services during this period. Related street protests are possible.
There have been at least six other doctor strikes held in the province since the beginning of the year and more are to be anticipated in the coming weeks and months until a settlement is reached.
Individuals present in Buenos Aires province, including in the city of Buenos Aires, are advised to confirm medical appointments and to anticipate longer waiting times in hospitals.
