05 juin 18h20 UTC
TIMEFRAME expected from 5/6/2017, 12h00 until 5/6/2017, 11h59 (Europe/Warsaw). COUNTRY/REGION Warsaw, Wroclaw, Poznań, Lodz

Event

Thousands of taxi drivers participate in a “slow-down” protest in the cities of Warsaw, Wroclaw, Poznan, and Lodz on Monday, June 5. In Warsaw, around 2000 taxi drivers organized a “slow-down” action - where taxis drive slowly in convoys with the intention of causing traffic congestion – while traveling to the office of the prime minister. Media sources reported severe traffic delays due to the demonstration.

Context

The taxi drivers claim that the rising number of unlicensed drivers is threatening their livelihoods. Taxi unions are calling for the government to require companies that use unlicensed drivers, like Uber, to provide fiscal records for the tax offices and for drivers to undergo psychological tests.

Advice

Individuals in the abovementioned cities are advised to anticipate severe traffic disruptions, allow additional time to travel, and to avoid all protests and demonstrations.
