Labor unions have planned a march to be held in Bridgetown on Monday, July 24, to denounce an increase in the National Social Responsibility Levy. The protesters are expected to gather at 10:00 (local time) at Queen's Park.
The trade unions are protesting a 400 percent increase in the National Social Responsibility Levy introduced on July 1. A number of smaller protests and strikes have been held across the island in past weeks.
As a precaution, travelers are advised to avoid political gatherings and protests. Previous related demonstrations have resulted in unrest, including minor scuffles with security forces.
