The Intersyndical Plenary of Workers – National Convention of Workers (PIT-CNT) trade union group has called for protests and partial work stoppages on Wednesday, October 4, and Thursday, November 16. October’s protests will take place around 17:00 (local time) near the US Embassy in Montevideo to protest “US imperialism.” The protest in November will include a work stoppage from 09:00 to 13:00 “in support of democracy and against neoliberalism.” PIT-CNT also plans to hold large meetings from November 16-18 on political and economic movements.
Localized traffic disruptions are likely in the area of the protests, as well as an increased security presence.
PIT-CNT frequently holds strikes in support of workers’ rights throughout Uruguay.
Individuals present in Uruguay, particularly in Montevideo, are advised to avoid all demonstrations as a precaution and to be prepared for possible transportation disruptions.
