Public transportation unions in Rome plan to launch a 24-hour strike on Friday, January 12. The strike will affect all bus, tram, subway, and regional railway service provided by the Transport Company of the Municipality of Rome (ATAC). In particular, the Roma-Lido, Termini-Centocelle, and Rome-Civitascastellana-Viterbo regional rail lines will be affected. However, a minimum level of service will be provided on January 12 before 08:30 (local time) and from 17:00 to 20:00.
Unless averted, significant transportation disruptions are to be expected throughout the Rome metropolitan area during the strike.
Transportation-related strikes are common in Italy and can be highly disruptive. However, in accordance with Italian law, minimum levels of services must be guaranteed during all strikes.
Travelers in Rome are advised to confirm their travel itineraries and to allow for extra time to reach their destinations. Exercise a high level of vigilance in affected areas, avoid all demonstrations, and follow all official instructions issued by relevant authorities.
